After a year of hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, on March 24, 2021, the project team provided training to the new staff of Makati City. Dr. Glenn Fernandez gave a presentation on forecasting the types and amounts of wastes that can be generated by typhoons while Dr. Noralene Uy presented on disaster waste recycling and disposal options as well as on the preparation of temporary storage sites. Project team members from Fiji also attended. Mr. Shalend Singh, Senior Health Inspector of the Lautoka City Council, shared their city’s experience of dealing with disaster wastes from Tropical Cyclone Harold during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ms. Sainimere Veitata, a PhD student at the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES) of Kyoto University, presented the results of the training needs assessment conducted in Lautoka in October 2019.
